Currently Max is riding his oldtimer Moto Guzzi from Chili to New York in 6 months, to document social businesses that work towards a better world: Connecting Las Americas. Through these posts, he will introduce you to all these great businesses. In this episode: Mafia Bags from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Mafia Bags

Mafia Bags is a certified bcorp that was founded in Buenos Aires by professional kitesurfer Marco Mafia and his sister Paz Mafia. Mafia bags are made out of recycled kite and boat sails. The company sells its products via stores in Argentina, through a flagship store in San Francisco, USA, and through their webshop.

No Mafia bag is exactly the same, as kitesurf, windsurf, and sail boat sails are being used without affecting the original material. Because of the materials, the bags are water resistant and light weight, and they carry lifetime warranty. All bags are cut and produced locally. In Argentina in collaboration with Fundación Avanzar, whose mission is to increase the quality of life of the most vulnerable people in society.

Mafia Bags is a group of friends and relatives that share the passion for nautical sports. The team carries out a dynamic and active way of life, discovering unique places in the world to develop an activity or enjoy the environment.

Spare sails

If you have a spare sail that you wish to have recycled into a cool bag, drop the team a mail: sailsforchange [at] mafiabags [dot] com, and grant your sail a second life!
