Currently Max is riding his oldtimer Moto Guzzi from Chili to New York in 6 months, to document social businesses that work towards a better world: Connecting Las Americas. Through these posts, he will introduce you to all these great businesses. In this episode: Guayaki in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Guayaki

Alex is the co-founder of Guayaki. Guayaki is a certified bcorp that produces organic “yerba mate”. With its revenues, it funds reforestation projects in the area where mate is from: Paraguay, Brasil and the northern provinces of Argentina.

Guayaki was founded about 20 years ago. Currently it has offices in Buenos Aires, Argentina and in San Francisco, USA. It sells mate all over the world, from Canada to New Zealand.

Mission

Guayaki’s mission is to steward and restore 200,000 acres of South American Atlantic rainforest and create over 1,000 living wage jobs by 2020. Within Guayaki’s Market-Driven-Restoration business model, customer’s purchases directly link to Guayaki’s partner farming communities in the South American Atlantic Rainforests.

Apart from the reforestation projects, Guayaki set up the Fundación Agroecológica Iguazú: a non-profit organisation whose mission is to be a driving factor for balancing environmental, social, and economic factors in Iguazú, in Argentina’s Misiones province.
