Description:

Elon Musk was at South by South By South West (SXSW) in Austin Texas where he talked for more than an hour about his plans to travel to Mars, the likelihood of a third world war, artificial intelligence and more.

What is it?

Elon Musk talks about the unthinkable. In his mind, there are no limits. That makes it all the more interesting when there suddenly is something he questions. He is known for his fear of artificial intelligence and explains why: “Smart people don’t like the idea that a machine can be smarter, so they discount the idea. But that’s wishful thinking.”

Artificial intelligence develops exponentially. At first, we will see and feel the benefits, even though it will cost jobs, but if we don’t regulate what’s happening we will be lost. “If humanity collectively decides that creating digital superintelligence is the right move, we should do so very, very carefully….very, very carefully”

Why is it interesting?

Elon Musk is one of the great minds of our time. It’s always interesting to hear him talk. On the one side, you keep thinking it’s just crazy, it can’t be really happening. But on the other side, there is the thought: what if he can do it? What if this is really happening? That makes listening to Musk inspiring and exciting. Whether he talks about a base on the moon, solar energy, the Tesla in space or his fear of artificial intelligence.

Key take away/Quote:

“The danger of ai is much greater than the danger of nuclear warheads. By a lot.”
